Outline of The Little Mermaid
“The Little Mermaid” follows the story of Ariel, a curious and adventurous mermaid princess living in the underwater kingdom of Atlantica. In her fascination with the human world above, Ariel collects various human artifacts despite her father King Triton’s warnings. During a storm, she rescues a human prince named Eric from a sinking ship and she becomes infatuated with him. Defying her father, Ariel seeks out the sea witch Ursula, who offers her a chance to become human in exchange for her voice. Ursula provides Ariel with legs, but she takes her voice as payment.
As a mute human, Ariel gains refuge in Eric’s palace and they grow close, but communication remains a challenge. Ursula, disguised as a human named Vanessa, attempts to marry Eric to solidify her power. Ariel’s friends, Sebastian the crab and Flounder the fish, expose Ursula’s deceit, leading to a climactic battle where Eric defeats Ursula with Ariel’s help.
After Ursula’s defeat, King Triton realizes his daughter’s love for Eric and sacrifices his own powers to transform Ariel into a human permanently. However, this comes at the cost of his own control over the seas. Ariel and Eric marry, and Ursula’s spells are broken, restoring Triton’s powers and happiness to Atlantica. The film ends with Ariel and Eric sailing off into their new life together as humans, and King Triton’s acceptance of their love.
“The Little Mermaid” is a heartwarming tale of love, sacrifice, and the pursuit of one’s dreams, showcasing the importance of staying true to oneself and the power of true love.
